Ryan is high scorer at YM Basketball

The Young Men played their tournament games last Saturday. Although they lost both games, Ryan played some amazing basketball. Here he is going up for a shot. He was the high scorer in game #1 with (we think) 12 points. Good job, Ryan!

Grandbabies visit

Joanie and Nate got to go snowboarding, so Landon and Cameron came to stay with Grandma & Grandpa for a couple of days. Joanie & kids stayed on with us for a week while Nate went back to work.

Cameron is not the best dinner eater. Not until Grandma gave her some Mexican food, that is. She ate two tacos, then I gave her some warm, rolled tortillas with guacamole for dipping. She ate several tortillas this way but decided she could get even more guacamole if she just ate it with a spoon.

Landon loved our big puddle in the back yard. He threw rocks and sticks and even went wading. But he didn't like his wet shoes, socks and pants, so Grandma fixed that!

Our blog returns with.....Snow Camping!

There was plenty of snow at Lassen Volcanic National Park this past weekend. Here's a picture of the visitor center. But that made for perfect conditions for Troop 58's annual snow campout. The Scouts were out of school Friday for Lincoln's birthday. They left Friday morning, worked all day on their shelters, slept in them, then played Saturday before heading home.

Julia's Graduation

Outstanding!!

There is no way Julia was going to make this post, so Mom is blogging. On May 20 Julia and family attended Senior Awards Night. (Funny that we received so many phone calls to be sure Julia would be present to receive her "sports" award.) She did receive a sports award: the Army Reserve National Female Scholar Athlete Award. She also received the Principal's Academic Excellence Award for never having received a grade lower than an A. But then came the grand finale: the unveiling of the mysterious, cloaked easel which had been carried onto the stage. This would be the award for the Outstanding Senior of 2009. My wise daughter, Joanie, leaned over to me and said, "You'd better start recording this." As the principal begin reading the description of the recipient, it soon became obvious that it was our own Outstanding Julia!

We got to bring the portrait home for a few days, and Joanie found the perfect spot for Julia to hang out. What? It's not overbearing, is it?

Easter Sunday

It was a beautiful spring day at the Dunbar's today. We thought we'd step outside and take a picture before church. I noticed it was much easier to get cooperation with this small group rather than our huge group family pictures.

Even though Mom doesn't have little kids at home anymore, she couldn't give up dying Easter eggs. So Ryan and I agreed to participate, and it was fun. We got Grandma to come down and dye a couple of them, and we even got Dad to dye one! I think it might have been his first Easter egg after all five of his children or at least the first that I can remember. I guess it's not a very manly thing to do.

This was by far the best looking egg of the whole bunch. It's a nice color blue isn't it, Ben?


Although we're getting fewer in numbers here, we still have all of our Dunbar Easter traditions including the passover dinner, the empty tomb, and of course, the Easter Bunny cake. We must have so many of these pictures from over the years. It's kind of ridiculous.

Everyone was asking who is going to make the Easter Bunny cake next year. I volunteered Ryan, but I don't think he's going to go for it.

All in all it was a very enjoyable day. We had dinner at Grandma and Grandpa's house and had a lot of fun together.

Life at the Dunbars'

Life goes on everyday, one thing after another. These last few months have been busy, busy, busy. There's just no spare time with Mom teaching seminary every other week, Dad working and taking care of scouts and the young men's program, and I have, since December, been working at all the home high school basketball games and would often not get home from seminary until 9:30 at night. It's been a lot of fun, but I'm afraid we don't ever get the camera out and feel like updating our pictures.

Chris is at home right now though, and that's a lot of fun. He's working out at the church farm right now. He'll be heading back to Rexburg next month. On St. Patrick's day I was trying to help him fill out a resume for a job at BYU-Idaho, but I don't think he appreciated my help.

With the basketball season over now, I'm fully engaged in track. Our regular league meets start next week, and I'm hoping to see some real personal improvement. I've been running anything and everything from the 4X100m relay, the 100, and the 200, to the open 400, and the 4X400m relay.
Our most recent meet was a pre-season meet against Paradise High School. It wasn't what I would call the most fun meet because they didn't really have any varsity girls. I had to race against my own team all day, but the real problem was that when it came time for the 4X4, my relay team had to race against the varsity boys. Not only that, but I had to run my leg against the fastest guy on the track team, who you see right behind me. It wasn't that big of a deal, but my whole family was laughing at me. It wasn't really a fair race; it was just pretty funny.

My goal was for us not to get lapped, which we didn't. I even promised one of my coaches that I personally wouldn't get lapped (because I was the first leg of the relay). Anyway it's pretty fun, and I'm hoping to be successful this season.

Brigham Young Here I Come!

Wow! I know everyone's tired of waiting for the Dunbars to update their blog. I'm not sure if that's supposed to be my job or my mom's, but we're all pretty busy around here. My latest news, though is that I got accepted to BYU!I'll be heading there sometime in August for the fall semester. When I leave depends on whether or not I make it into the marching band, so we'll see. I'm way excited though, and I think my "senioritis" is kicking in a little bit.

All Together Again

We were able to have all of our family here for Christmas. We had so much fun together and even went sailing in the San Francisco Bay. The only problem is that we feel out done on the sailing blogs. All of our sailing pictures are already on Joanie's blog and Ben and Andrea's blog. So go check 'em out!

Thankful Turkey Duel

So I went on Ben and Andrea's blog the other day and saw their thankful turkey. I told Ben that it was really cool and that we should make one too. So we did, and the whole time we were saying, "We have to make it bigger than Ben's!" So Ben wanted to see how big we made it. I think we're winning, but there's still one more day before Thanksgiving.

Carnegie Hall and New York City

This weekend Mom and I went to New York City! We went because my hero, Adam Gyorgy, was coming all the way from Hungary to play the piano in Carnegie Hall! It was the most incredible thing I've ever seen. It was so beautiful! It all seemed so unreal. I couldn't believe it! We got to sit on the second row, so we could see every expression on his face. His delicate touch and the feeling he put into his music was unlike anything you could imagine. It was inspiring.

This is me and Laszlo Gyorgy. Laszlo is Adam's brother, and he was kind enough to introduce me to Adam personally after the concert. I got to talk to Adam for a while, and he signed my piano music that he inspired me to learn. It was great!

We had such a great time. Everything worked out so perfectly, it was unbelievable! Being able to go to that concert is definitely something that I will remember for the rest of my life!
